I never really talk about comic books on this blog. Which is weird since this blog is about me drawing a comic book. I actually don't read many comics. I used to when I was younger, but it could be accurately described as a phase. However, when I think about the stories floating around in my mind, they're always far more visual than linguistic. I simply must draw them, it isn't enough to write about it.

I'm gearing up for a lot of painting work, so I figured I would practice by painting a little idea I had for the most comic-booky icon of all comic books: Superman. This was all done mostly on one layer in Photoshop so I could blend the colors and build upon them, like the traditional methods.

My idea for Superman would be that he's a pan-dimensional being, sent to our reality for mysterious purposes, formless and crystalline, drawing energy directly from sunlight, until the Kents find him. Then he takes the form of a human boy, fulfilling their desire for a son. He would be more monster than man - the first thing he would do in my version of the story is murder the billionaire philanthropist Lex Luthor. Lois Lane would investigate and the whole story would follow her as she tries to humanize this alien demigod...

Then he would punch Batman to death while yelling "MARTHA!!!"

Oh wait...

Today is the first day of Spring. Hopefully I'll be back to FLOLAS by the Summer Solstice.
